Exploring the Multiscript World: The Creation of Polin Sans Typeface

The genesis of Polin Sans began with a profound exploration of modernist aesthetics, particularly delving into the iconic Alphabet "a.r." by Władysław Strzemiński, intertwined with the rich tapestry of pre-war Warsaw's multiscript landscape. This ambitious type family, conceived after meticulous research into the geometric variations of Cyrillic alphabets, found its roots in the enlightening text "Towards an open layout: A letter to Volodya Yefimov."

The revelation that circular forms, often associated with Bulgarian Cyrillic, could seamlessly merge into the classical version without hindering legibility sparked an intriguing path forward. Simultaneously, the mesmerizing Hebrew typeface "jaffa," unearthed during work on typoteka.pl, akin to a Hebrew iteration of Alphabet "a.r.," captivated the imagination. Enter Ben Nathan, hailing from Israel, whose expertise and passion contributed the Hebrew script to this diverse ensemble.

What began as a singular vision soon blossomed into a multiscript odyssey, encompassing Greek and Vietnamese scripts, weaving together a historical narrative of Polish modernism's hidden gems. The collaborative efforts of Mateusz Machalski and Ben Nathan, supported by Michał Gorczyca and Małgorzata Bartosik, gave birth to Polin Sans—a testament to cultural amalgamation and design excellence.
